"Our son, Matthew, was 8 years old when we discovered this wonderful surf camp. Matthew is autistic and although he had issues with waiting for all the other kids and listening to instructions on dry land, I can’t say enough about all of those special folks who made things work for him. Once he was in the water he was in heaven. The wonderful people who assisted him were patient and efficient and lots of fun. Matthew had the best time and talks about it frequently. We will do whatever it takes to participate with these loving and generous people next summer. God bless each one of them!"

"Surf Camp was the best 4 hours of the last 4 years. It gave our family the opportunity to be regular people at the beach. Surf Camp combines social, athletic, oceanographic, and speech skill development in a fun and caring environment. Even Jesus lead people to the water's edge to be healed."

"Synergy; that’s what a group of people with very different backgrounds, abilities, and challenges shared during an unforgettable day as participants in Project Surf Camp in Morro Bay.
I was never formally paired up with my partner, Zach, but after a short time talking, we knew it was on. We had a connection. The worlds of a unique young man with autism and a Florida cracker turned educator came together as we walked to the beach, donned our wetsuits, and selected our board.
Our connection grew stronger as we counted to three and submerged ourselves in the ocean simultaneously and then got rolled by waves we weren’t ready for. We shared the thrill of the first long ride, songs from classic TV shows, and a sun-shiny August afternoon in the Pacific Ocean.
I felt a sense of wholeness as I joined Zach, his dad, my wife, my foster daughter, and all the rest of the participants for a group photo. Bob Marley sums up the day best with his joyful words, “One love. One heart. Let’s get together and feel alright.”
Special thanks to John Taylor and the crew at Morro Bay Surf Company.

"On August 25, 2007, Jim Felicity, our 12 year old foster daughter, and I volunteered to assist for Project Surf Camp in Morro Bay. I was paired with Kat, an outgoing teen who reminded me what fun the ocean can be.
I think she was the first to get up on her board, and she kept paddling out for more rides until she fell on the sand exhausted and smiling with seaweed in her red curly hair.
Salt, cold waves, sun, smiles – I had a blast

When I went surfing I had a lot of fun. The two little girls I worked with did a great job. I liked it because on my first try I stood up for about ten seconds. Then on my second try I stood up for about twenty seconds. On my last try I stood up for about two minutes. Thank you Mr. Taylor! I had a great time surfing with you and helping you with the kids.
I think we all had a wonderful time.
Aloha!
